Out and About \ Vintage Store

When you go walking in downtown Lexington there are a lot of churches. A lot as in I can stand on the steps of one church and see four others less then two blocks away. A lot as in I hear church bells every hour of the day from my house, as in two of my three bedroom windows face different churches, as in one of the best pizza places in town is in an old church down the road, as in I watched the fourth of July fireworks on the steps on an abandoned church last summer. They don't call it the Bible belt for nothing I guess. But I love them all, they're so beautiful. Natasha and I went on a long walk one evening checking out every churches service times just because we want to go in and see how magnificent they are inside as well.

There's a few churches downtown that you can tell aren't active anymore. There's doors are sealed shut, the paint is chipping, and there's never any activity coming in or out. So I was pleasantly surprised the other day when I was walking Tucker and saw that one of these abandoned churches was open. Not just open, in fact, but had been converted to a vintage furniture store. That's right, a vintage store... set in a hundred year old historical church... I die. I couldn't go in because I had Tucker so today I went back by myself. 

I just have to say how much I wish I had a big house to decorate and a bunch of money to do it with, but doesn't everyone? The Church was filled with so many beautiful pieces: sideboards, armoires, paintings, chandeliers, and more. Absolutely filled, there were no wide isles or big displays it was one of the fun stores where you have to really search and have an eye for finding treasures.

Some of my favorite pieces I found today were the rocking horse/teeter totter, I'd never seen one with three seats like that, and the Mt St Helens picture because it's from the Pacific Northwest where Natasha and I were born. I also loves the giant solid wood canoe, it was huge and beautiful, and I want it for my imaginary summer lake home. Plus you can't forget how gorgeous the building is itself. Shopping with a massive pipe organ in the corner and stained glass windows all around can't help but improve your mood. I'm bringing Natasha and our mom back immediately!

Vintage Arcade Games

Last month I went to an event called the Creative Agency Tour. It was an open house where we got to go around to all the different agencies in Lexington and see their work, there's seriously so many talented people in this city. A lot of the ads I'd seen before and was already a fan of so it was cool to see where they're actually created.

I walked around to all the different studios with my friend Leanne who interns with me at the career center. We both had a great time exploring and networking. I'm always so grateful that I enjoy the people I work with, it makes work so much more fun.

After the tour there was an after party. Which was a great time, they had it at a small publishing company in an old part of town. We ate yummy food, had drinks, and listened to a great live band. The best part of the night was definitely the vintage arcade games though. There was pinball and some kind of space alien game. We also ran into a friend of mine who works next door at The Weekly Juicery. (I highly recommend it if you're in Lexington or Louisville.) I have to admit I wasn't very good at either of the games but pinball was by far my favorite.

At the end of the night I had a great time and met some really cool people. maybe I'll be working with some of them after graduation, who know. P.S. I'm still looking for a job if you know of anything ;)
